Appendant Bodies
The journey of a Master Mason does not have to end with the Third Degree. Freemasonry offers a number of appendant and concordant bodies that allow Brothers to continue their Masonic education, explore additional traditions, serve their communities, and strengthen the bonds of fellowship. These organizations build upon the principles taught in the Blue Lodge while offering their own unique lessons and experiences.
Among the best known are the York Rite, consisting of Royal Arch Masonry, Cryptic Masonry, and the Knights Templar; the Scottish Rite, which expands upon Masonic philosophy and education through the 4° through 32°; and Shriners International, known for fellowship, community involvement, and its support of Shriners Children’s.
Other organizations throughout the Masonic family provide opportunities for fellowship, education, charity, family participation, and service. Each offers a different way to experience Further Light in Masonry, but none replaces the foundation of our fraternity—the lessons, friendships, and brotherhood found within the Blue Lodge.
At Hiram Lodge No. 25, we encourage our Brothers to explore the many opportunities available throughout the greater Masonic family while always remembering that the foundation of our Masonic journey begins at home, in Blue Lodge.
